In the last few months, we’ve been keeping busy delivering training to a range of organisations. We delivered a series of modules on equality, unconscious bias, cultural awareness and intersectionality both face to face and online with teams involved in child protection in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray councils under GREC’s Promoting Equality in North East Scotland Training. We have also been delivering training to teachers in schools.
This multiagency initiative was an excellent way to coordinate and share best practice, giving participants an opportunity to learn and discuss equalities in the North East along with practical information from the Public Protection Unit from Police Scotland.
The feedback we received, both informally and through a feedback survey, was positive and encouraging as we always appreciate the observations from professionals who felt that this training had been effective and useful to apply new strategies in their day-to-day work.
One of our most valuable training tools is to ensure localised and up to date information about equality in the North East. Connecting local data and evidence on inequalities and GREC’s 40 years of experience tackling discrimination gives us an advantage and offers a more engaging and effective way to share knowledge and generate new perspectives on the importance of this topic, as well as tools to continue reflecting on how to improve processes and address inequalities from your own remit.
This year is already offering us some training challenges we are very keen to face to continue developing effective and active training strategies for our clients. Watch this space as we begin to develop a new training opportunity on Accessible Language for teams involved with people who speak English as a second language.
